Everything that I am today is because of 3 things that happened to me in middle school. My love of the ocean and Florida cultivated into my declaration that I would become a marine biologist. I started playing with my Dad's old Pentax film camera. And in 6th grade I got seated across from this kid named Evan that made fun of my need for a perfectly organized desk.
My artistic talents landed me into Dreyfoos School of the Arts where on the first day of school that Evan kid was sitting right in front of me in 3rd period- we were instant friends. I lost the old Pentax and got a Nikon. I continued to tell everyone that art was just for fun and I was going to get a real job in science while my friends all starved as painters and filmmakers. Evan and I started dating the summer after 11th grade and I eventually moved to Tampa for college. Evan moved here in a grand gesture during my sophomore year, dragging his best friend with him on the journey.
We had a beach wedding in Saint Petersburg and ended up with two very different but very amazing rescue dogs who we talk to and refer to as people. We like to have fun and wished we could spend every day together. So we decided we should work for ourselves since we had always listened to our hearts instead of our heads before. Besides, I can't help it if I'm just management material.
Who knew we would end up creating something so wonderful. In addition to a photographer and a business owner, I am an environmentalist, storyteller, parrot head, football watcher, movie buff, hurricane chaser, converse wearer, die-hard Floridian, and a dork in general. I am both an artist and a scientist, but art finally won.
